Botanical Name Common Name
The Joe-Pye Weed is native to North America, and is generally found along roadsides and in ditches. It is just now finding a place in American gardens, and rightfully so. It blooms mid to late summer with huge rose-red flowers atop tall foliage with wine colored stems. Give it room in the garden as it attains a mature height of up to 5-6' and almost as wide a spread. One of the best perennials for attracting butterflies to the garden. Full sun is best and quite tolerant of moist soils.
